Greetings to our Alumni and Alumnae,
It has been good to see so many of you from time to time at O.L.L. events or just dropping by to say hello. In fact we were delighted one day when two graduates from the classes of 1939 and 1946 stopped by simply to reminisce and see how the school is doing. Happily I was able to tell them things were going very well - enrollment is steady, parent participation is wonderful and we are educating great young people.
Our Lady of the Lake School has a truly proud history. The meaningful traditions continue while at the same time we have made use of the latest educational technology and methodology. Our computer rooms and science labs are well used. Spanish, art and music enrich our curriculum offerings. Our forensics program is very successful and popular with the junior high students; the basketball program still thrives and each year we manage to win trophies. Choir and band have brought out the musical ability in a good number. Student leadership shows the value of personal and group responsibility while our tutoring program offers opportunity to reach out in assistance of others. O.L.L. is a Middle States accredited institution (see Home Page).
One of the school's proudest boasts has been our concern for ecology. For many years time and effort have been expended to make both students and parents more conscious of our environment. Recycling, conservation and proper living habits are reinforced daily. Teachers work hard to make students aware of the beauty of God's creation and our need to care for it. In 2007 we became a member of the Green Faith Organization (www.greenfaith.org), one of the few schools fulfilling the requirements to belong. It has been very satisfying for us to see how society in general has taken more interest in preserving our planet.
The mission of the school began in 1924 when it opened. Since then generations of dedicated teachers and students have carried on the ideals of our founders. Because of you, those before you, and those after you Our Lady of the Lake enjoys a great reputation as a school offering quality education with an emphasis on values and morality, love and service. This is what has inspired me as a principal for the past nineteen years - the love, the dedication, the loyalty of so many, past and present.
We are always thankful for any assistance we receive in achieving our goals - whether financial, or time or talent donated. Donations have come to the school in memory of a deceased graduate and we have been remembered in wills. Outright good-will gifts have come our way. Some of you may work for companies which give matching gifts or have access to grants given by Foundations. If you have a talent or ability that you can put at our service, please let us know. There are several ways of keeping in touch and we appreciate the visits, the notes, and the calls throughout the years. Please know that if there is anything we can do for you we would be happy to. If you wish to plan a class reunion, the school facility may be used and the school web site could be used to promote the event. Please keep checking with the school's website for news.
Meantime we remember you and yours in grateful loving prayers.
God bless you, Sr. Mary Agnes Sullivan, O.P. Principal
