Forensics at Our Lady of the Lake School
Forensics is our interscholastic public speaking club, open to students in Grades 5–8. The league includes approximately eight participating schools, and competitions focus on speech, debate, and drama events. Through forensics, students develop their public speaking, analytical, and critical thinking skills—building poise, academic confidence, and communication abilities.
Students meet once a week with the coaches to practice their pieces. Prior to each meet, judges evaluate the participants to select six competitors and one alternate to represent Our Lady of the Lake. The four meet categories are: Dramatic Reading, Declamation, Drama, and Humor.
Our students have earned numerous individual and team awards over the years. Forensics not only provides valuable experience for high school and college competition—it also builds foundational skills for future academic and professional success.
Choir
In addition to weekly classroom music, Our Lady of the Lake offers a School Choir for students in Grades 2–8. The choir leads music at school liturgies from September through May, giving students the opportunity to perform regularly in a meaningful setting.
Members develop vocal technique and music-reading skills, and eligible students may serve as cantors or song leaders. Beyond liturgical celebrations, the choir is also a central part of the annual Christmas concert and pageant, as well as various school assemblies throughout the year.
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)
Our Lady of the Lake School honors exceptional academic achievement and personal integrity through membership in the National Junior Honor Society. Open to students in Grades 7 and 8, NJHS recognizes those who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character, and service. Eligibility is based on the criteria outlined in the Parent-Student Handbook.
Membership in NJHS is both an honor and a responsibility. Members are expected to share their talents in meaningful ways, including participation in our Peer Tutoring Program. Teachers recommend students in Grades 1–7 who may benefit from academic support, and—once parent permission is granted—NJHS members meet with their assigned peer tutee one afternoon per week.
Drama Club
Open to students in Grades 4–8, the Drama Club offers a fun and creative way to explore the performing arts. Students rehearse throughout the year and showcase their talents in a full-scale musical production each May. It’s a great opportunity to build confidence, teamwork, and stage skills!
Instrumental Music
OLL is proud to partner with Fundamental Music Instruction to offer instrumental music lessons to our students. All group lessons take place during the school day on a rotating schedule
Student Council (new for 2025-2026)
Our Student Council gives students a voice in school life and helps build leadership and teamwork skills. Representatives from each grade work together to plan events, support school initiatives, and promote school spirit. It's a great opportunity for students to lead by example and make a positive impact on the school community.
